Londoners Still Jetting Off This Easter
Tuesday, 10 March 2009
People in London are determined not to let the recession spoil their spring breaks, with thousands still planning to jet off to Europe over the Easter break.
Low-fares airline easyJet is reporting strong sales from London airports. Geneva, the gateway to Europe's best ski resorts is the top destination from Stanstead, Luton and Gatwick airports, followed by Spanish cities Malaga, Alicante, Palma, and Barcelona.
Paul Simmons, easyJet's UK general manager, said: "Easter is traditionally one of our busiest periods of the year, and this year is no different. People are keen to escape the doom and gloom of the recession and are taking advantage of some great bargains to destinations across Europe."
"In contrast to predictions that people would be heading out of the Eurozone to take advantage of more favourable exchange rates, our sales figures are also showing that people sticking to Western Europe.
"All of the top destinations - Switzerland and Spain - have a flight time of less than three hours from most UK airports, so it seems that people are choosing quick getaways rather than cheap currency."
Nationwide easyJet is predicted to welcome over half a million passengers at fifteen UK airports over the Easter holidays.
