M&D’s is reflecting on a superb year supporting a number of important causes in 2017 by raising £15,000 and welcoming thousands of guests from a number of charities.

Last year, Scotland’s Theme Park announced the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation as its nominated charity of the year.

M&D’s held two special events for hundreds of Scottish families supported by the organisation, helping them to spend quality time together.

The charity, which helps very special children with life threatening illnesses, visited the theme park for a day of fun with 100 of its members and returned in December for a festive afternoon at Santa’s Magical Wonderland, with its families getting a sneak preview of M&D’s Christmas celebrations before it opened to the public.

As well as pledging to support the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation, M&D’s also helped several other charities and groups last year.

Around 600 second year pupils enjoyed a rewarding day out at the theme park during the summer as part of North Lanarkshire Council’s Celebrating Success programme which has partnered with Scotland’s Theme Park for a number of years.

More than 900 children and their families and carers also visited the park with Variety Scotland and a host of entertainers who performed a range of jaw-dropping balloon, juggling and unicycle tricks for families.

Staff at M&D’s also raised an impressive £15,000 for Marie Curie by hosting a charity lunch and auction at Alona Hotel and supported a sponsored walk around Strathclyde Country Park in aid of voluntary organisation, Love n Light, which supports families recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

The event raised more than £2,300.

Matthew Taylor, managing director of M&D’s Theme Park, said: “Each year we try to support some great local causes.

“We are delighted to have helped so many deserving children across Scotland create wonderful memories with their families throughout 2017.

“As the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation is still our nominated charity of the year, we hope to partner with them to create more magical days out and offer support in any way we can.

“Marie Curie is also a charity that is very close to the hearts of my family and staff. Donating such a substantial sum was a very proud moment.”
