New Herbert Brown Store Boosts Halifax Economy
Monday, 14 December 2009
One of Britain's most established pawnbroking and retail jewellery chains Herbert Brown is to start trading from its new store in Halifax this week, creating six new retail positions in the town.
Herbert Brown has acquired the former Baguette Express store on Market Street which had recently ceased trading. Herbert Brown's acquisition and extensive refurbishment of the site will bring the business' total investment in the local economy to over £250,000 and have a significant impact on retail choice in the town.
Herbert Brown, which has just been crowned Employer of the Year for the second year running by the National Pawnbrokers Association, currently has 33 stores across the country and is one of the largest pawnbroking and retail jewellery chains in the UK.
Rod Mason, managing director of Herbert Brown, says: "Herbert Brown is delighted to be opening its doors in Halifax. We have begun an extensive staff training programme and will open this week to ensure that Halifax's shoppers have access to vintage and new jewellery, as well as a top quality gold and jewellery buying facility, over the busy Christmas period.
"The store has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme, with the business investing heavily in refitting the store to deliver a building society styled pawnbroking shop as well as a high quality jewellery retail operation."
Mason continues: "We have maintained our position as one of Britain's most established jewellers and pawnbrokers by reinventing the look and customer experience of pawnbroking.
"The business is experiencing its highest level of footfall to date, due to a shift in perception of the pawnbroking industry and the opportunity to trade online. As a result our customer base has widened; we are now seeing a surge in customers seeking to buy vintage jewellery. In addition, pawnbroking has become one of the swiftest ways to access short term loan facilities for individuals and businessmen alike.
Herbert Brown has recently unveiled an extensive recruitment drive and expansion plan following the strongest period of trading in its 169-year history.
Mason concludes: "The launch of our new full service website Pawnbroking.co.uk has paved the way for a new phase in Herbert Brown's long history, and this, together with a continued period of strong trading across our retail stores, has precipitated this challenging expansion drive."
