New Year New Career
Monday, 24 January 2011
Almost half of Brits consider a change in career when returning to work after the Christmas holidays, a new study has revealed.
With the festive season now over, research from training experts ibp academy has found that up to 47 percent of the working population is currently reviewing their career options.
Of the 1,000 people interviewed, 23 percent claimed to be actively seeking a new job, 14 percent said they were considering setting up their own business, while 10 per cent said they were looking into training opportunities to enhance their career prospects.
John Parker, co-founder and director of ibp academy said: "New Year tends to be a time of reflection for most people and while many of us resolve to lose weight or take up a new hobby, it seems natural that others will review their career.
"People come back from the Christmas break with renewed energy and the drive to improve their prospects, whether it be through finding a new job, going for promotion or gaining new qualifications.
"January is always our busiest month for enquiries, but this year has seen a particular increase, with web traffic up 60 percent. We are putting that down to the increasingly competitive job market and the fact that people are seeking ways to differentiate themselves from their peers."
ibp academy is an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Centre of Excellence with established links to Edinburgh Napier University through an online Level 5 programme which leads to advanced entry to the BA in Business and Enterprise degree. ibp also has links to the University of Hertfordshire.
