Prime Huddersfield Regeneration Site Brought To Market

More than three acres of prime development space at a key regeneration site in West Yorkshire is being marketed by GVA, the UK's largest independent commercial property consultant.
The company's Leeds office is inviting interest in the former industrial site, known as Huddersfield Waterfront, next to the River Colne. The company has been appointed by Kirklees Council, in consultation with Yorkshire Forward.
GVA expects developers and occupiers will be enticed by the opportunity presented by planning permission already secured at the site. Outline consent has been granted for 194,000 sq ft of office accommodation, 4,200 sq ft of retail space, a 3,000 sq ft crèche, and associated car parking.

"It is an attractive scheme overlooking the reopened Huddersfield Narrow Canal and River Colne and will have a new public square as its central focus. The proposed office accommodation includes outline approval for four plots, ranging from 77,500 sq ft to 20,200 sq ft. However smaller floor plates could be made available. Alternative uses to complement the development can be considered, subject to planning.
In total, Huddersfield's Waterfront Quarter is a 7.5 acre site on the edge of the town centre. A new £60 million campus for Kirklees College is currently under construction and will be completed in September 2012 when it will be used by 3,000 students and 300 staff.
Site preparation works to the commercial development land will be completed in April, followed by highway works in 2012. Cllr Peter McBride, Kirklees Council's Lead Member for Regeneration, said: "With work starting on the next phase of development, I am delighted to see that Huddersfield's Waterfront Quarter is gaining considerable momentum. As work on the site has progressed, it's easy to see how attractive the waterside location will be to investors and developers."
