Prontaprint Proud To Celebrate Sunderlands Young Achievers

Thursday, 29 January 2009

Local entrepreneur Tim Morris is dusting down his tuxedo in preparation for a glitzy awards ceremony, as his Prontaprint centre honours the positive contribution that young people make to the quality of life in Sunderland by supporting the city's acclaimed Sunderland Young Achievers Awards.

The Mowbray Park centre, based on Toward Road, has produced all marketing literature, invitations and programmes for the awards ceremony.  This is the third year that Prontaprint has thrown its weight behind the awards and, in addition to producing the printed material for the event itself, centre owners Tim and Kathy Morris are involved at all the key stages of the awards from the selection process to the awards night itself.

Calling on their expertise and their keen eye for design, Tim and Kathy form part of the judging panel for the Youth Arts prize, attending the Young Achievers Youth Arts Exhibition, entitled "Promoting Young People's Voices and Influences" and whittling down the submissions from hundreds of entries to a final shortlist of five.

Prontaprint are also part of the overall awards panel and, together with fellow sponsors such as Nike UK Ltd, SAFC Foundation, Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd, Metroradio, The R&B Group, National Glass Centre, Sunderland Youth Parliament, Arts Centre Washington, Gentoo Sunderland, Sunderland Echo and more recently Northumbrian Water, carefully select the most deserving nominee in each category for official recognition.

The centre's involvement culminates in the Awards night itself on Thursday 5th March where Tim will present the Youth Arts prize - a work of art itself, having been specially designed by the National Glass Centre.

Comments Tim: "The standard of entries is always extremely high and this year's submissions were no exception.  It is important to recognise the achievements of the young people of Sunderland who give so much and make such a positive contribution to our city.

"At Prontaprint we are committed to supporting the Young Achievers Awards, both in terms of the design and print service that we provide and also through our involvement in the judging process.  The Youth Arts Exhibition was filled with inspiring and talented pieces and selecting a final winner has been tougher than ever."

Andy Neal, Interim Manager for Sunderland Youth Development Group added: "We would like to thank Prontaprint for their commitment to the awards.  All of our sponsors play a key role in the judging process and their support ensures that the young people of Sunderland receive the recognition that they deserve."

Notes to Editors

  • Founders Edwin Thirlwell and Ken Clement opened the first Prontaprint centre back in 1971 based on a simple idea - to make high-quality design, print and copying available to everyone.
  • Prontaprint now has a network of just under 150 franchised centres across the UK and Ireland - many with a turnover of well over £1 million a year- and is the best known print-on-demand franchise in Europe.
  • In 2008 the business achieved 'Business Superbrand' status for the sixth year running and scooped the accolade for 'Best Brand Management' in the prestigious Franchise Marketing Awards as a direct result of the introduction of its distinctive new brand and co-ordinated repositioning strategy.
  • Prontaprint's new brand identity is currently being rolled out across all UK and Irish centres.  Each franchise must undertake a stringent brand audit to benchmark the centre against an overall network standard before receiving the new brand and enhanced services including: design, print, display, direct mail and finish.

  • The new look clearly differentiates Prontaprint from its competitors and creates maximum impact with business clients.
