Richard Mayfield Named Photographer Year

Richard Mayfield FBIPP has been named the British Institute of Professional Photography's (BIPP) 'Photographer of the Year 2012' in a ceremony held at the British Film Institute on the Southbank.
Richard, creative director of the international studio photography franchise Venture Photography, beat off competition from thousands of other professional photographers worldwide to be presented with the award, which is one of the highest honours in the industry.
The image that secured Richard the 'Photographer of the Year 2012' title is entitled 'Lisa'. He also picked up nine further awards on the night across three different categories.
Richard, who has been a professional photographer for 14 years, says winning the BIPP's 'Photographer of the Year 2012' title is a career highlight:
"It's been an unforgettable evening and a real pleasure to be joined by so many talented photographers that I admire and respect.
"I'm thrilled to have been named 'Photographer of the Year' and that my work has been so well received by the BIPP and its members. I'm passionate about what I do and it's wonderful to be recognised in this way."
The BIPP has more than 3000 members worldwide covering every discipline of photography.
The BIPP Professional Photography Awards are a showcase for professional photographers, celebrating the very best work from theUKand abroad.
BIPP President Roy Meiklejohn said: "The Professional Photography Awards acknowledge the achievements, sheer skill and dedication of professional photographers.
"The Photographer of the Year was selected from a group of just seven images which received the highest accolade of a Gold award in the competition. This is a tremendous achievement of which Richard should be very proud.''
