Skys Limit Ana Heads East To Follow Fashion Dream
Thursday, 01 December 2011
Londoner Ana Mladenovic has been awarded a prestigious industry scholarship to study at GCU London, courtesy of leading fashion retailer All Saints.
The 26-year-old, who hails from Battersea, is studying for a MSc in International Fashion Marketing at GCU London's stylish Spitalfields campus in the capital's hip east end. Ana was one of just five students to be awarded the highly sought-after full-fee scholarship.
Fashion lover Ana said GCU London was the only course for her because it "ticked all the right boxes."
She said: "I looked around at quite a few fashion Masters in London but GCU London's was the only one that really stood out to me as fulfilling every requirement of what I was after. After reading through the prospectus I knew it was the perfect course for me."
Even though Ana lived in London prior to joining the course, she admitted that without the scholarship from All Saints, it would have been impossible for her to follow her fashion dream.
She said: "Without the scholarship I don't think I would have been sitting here today, doing the course. I would have had to have worked so many extra hours just to pay for the course and my work would have suffered. The scholarship has been a godsend."
Kingston University London graduate Ana already has an impressive fashion background, having worked for US fashion brand Calvin Klein, as well as a high-end King's Road boutique and luxury retailer Harvey Nichols.
Once she finishes her course Ana's ultimate ambition in the fashion world is to work for a top British fashion company.
She said: "I would love to work for Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen or All Saints. I really love the British brands and my goal is to get involved in some real high-end luxury fashion one day."
"I'm also a big admirer of Philipp Plein, an up-and-coming German designer. I'd really like to work for someone like him - to be involved with a new brand right from the very start, watch it skyrocket and be able to say I was a part of that would be amazing."
GCU has earned an international reputation for the high quality of its fashion, marketing and retailing programmes, which equip students with the creative and practical skills that are vital for professionals working in fashion marketing and brand management.
Earlier this year, reflecting GCU's reputation, expertise and commitment in the area of fashion education, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pamela Gillies was awarded Fashion Innovator of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards.
It is the second year that fashion giant All Saints has offered the valuable scholarship. And Ana will now benefit from links with the industry leader, which has its headquarters in Spitalfields.
Stephen Doyle, Director of Fashion and Luxury Programmes, London, said: "The All Saints Scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for students to join the MSc in International Fashion Marketing and is indicative of the company's commitment to education.
"As one of the UK's leading fashion retailers the expertise and insights that it can offer students is particularly valuable. We are very grateful for their generous investment in our students.
"This endorsement by All Saints also highlights its belief in the programme and in the scholars that it supports. Ana has done well to secure one of the scholarships and she joins us with some good industry experience behind her, which shows her commitment and determination to work in the fashion industry."
