Specs Wearers Command Respect Workplace

Almost 70% of employers consider those wearing glasses as more employable than their job-hunting rivals, a workplace survey has revealed.

The Specsavers study of 100 employers and 100 employees revealed that:

  • 68% of employers favour glasses wearers as they come across more intelligent and trustworthy and create a better first impression
  • 96% of employers consider appearance above qualifications when interviewing for a position
  • 34% of non-specs wearing job hunters would consider wearing glasses to an interview to enhance their chances of securing the job

Gill Robinson, director of professional development, at Specsavers says: 'This study is an eye-opener in today's cut-and-thrust world of employment where jobs are so thin on the ground.

'While qualifications are clearly important, appearance plays a crucial role in an employer's decision to appoint a candidate - you can be the best equipped person for the job but if you don't appear smart and crisp at the interview, you will be piped at the post.

'Wearing glasses could give people a head start but it's more important that job hunters are well dressed and confident in their approach. Glasses wearers should, however, consider their choice of glasses for an interview, as if they turn up in loud flamboyant frames for a role in a more subdued and professional environment it may not go down too well.

'Equally, if someone is applying for a role in a more creative sector, whacky frames could just seal the deal!'
