Land Securities, owner of the Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland, has announced a host of new retailers will be launching within the centre.

A Build-A-Bear Workshop, will be opening its doors on Walworth Way North in a 3,000 sq ft unit this summer.

Build-A-Bear Workshop is the only global company that offers an interactive 'make your own stuffed animal' retail-entertainment experience. The company currently operates more than 400 Build-A-Bear Workshop stores worldwide and this will be the first store in Sunderland and the third in the north east.

Babylon pedicure spa, a store that provides the now infamous fish feet pedicure, has opened this month in a 1,100 sq ft unit on Walworth Way North Mall. It marks the first time a pedicure spa of this kind has opened in Sunderland.

The arrival of these retailers will bring in the region of 20 new jobs into the city.

There's more good news as Goldsmiths has confirmed it will be committing to the Bridges for the next decade to stay within its 1,780 sq ft unit on Market Square Mall. The store has recently completed an extensive new shop fit has introduced leading brands such as T W Steel, Michael Cors and Skagen to the store for the first time.

Collectables, the store that provides gifts for every occasion, has also pledged its commitment to the Bridges to stay within its 4,000 sq ft unit for the foreseeable on Walworth Way North.

These new deals follow in quick succession from Lush and Poundworld opening in the centre earlier in the year.

Jonathan Buckle, Bridges portfolio manager, comments: "We are once again bringing retailers who are not only new to the Bridges, but new to Sunderland into the scheme.

"To welcome leading national brands such as Build-A-Bear and Supercuts into the centre is a huge achievement and testament to the growing profile the centre is establishing for itself.

"Their arrival also follows hot on the heals of Lush and Poundworld's arrival which goes a long way to support our pledge to increase the diversity of our retail offer for our shoppers to enjoy."

So far this year, the Bridges has welcomed 8.3 million shoppers through the centre 6.3% higher than the same period last year.
