Taylor Shaw Passes 1M Test After Pitching To School Students
Thursday, 26 August 2010
Specialist education caterer Taylor Shaw has won a £1m contract with a prestigious high school following a selection process led in part by its students.
The company sealed the three-year, £1.2 million deal after taking input from and presenting their ideas to the influential student council at St Francis Xavier's College in Liverpool.
Having impressed their would-be customers with the quality of their food and the range of new services on offer, Taylor Shaw will take over all the school's catering facilities from this September.
Work is already underway to revitalise the school's dining facilities after feedback from students that they wanted to be able to be served and eat more quickly.
Meanwhile, additional cashless payment points are also being installed to prevent long queues forming at tills for the same reason.
The college facilities will also be available to the public to hire for private functions, with all proceeds going to the school fund.
Jim Lovett, Managing Director of Taylor Shaw, said: "We always relish the opportunity to listen to students to find out what they want whenever we plan new services, but in this case, they were actually an influential part of the selection process.
"It was their input which caused us to redesign part of the dining room so that we can provide a speedier service, we understand they were also impressed the quality and variety of fresh, healthy food which will be on the menu from September."
Marie Black, Business Manager of St Francis Xavier's College, added: "We have got a very active school council here and try to involve them on any major decisions which will affect both them and the pupils who follow them.
"If we are going to improve upon the number of people who opt for nutritious meals at lunchtime, we have to not only focus on the quality of the food but the overall experience for children.
Les Rippon, Headteacher added: "Having seen the way Taylor Shaw really listened to what our students wanted, we are convinced that they will take their views on board and we are looking forward to working with them over the next three years."
Taylor Shaw specialises in education catering and operates across 300 sites nationally serving primary, secondary and independent schools, and colleges and currently employs more than 1,200 staff.
