A local youth football team is kicking off the new season with brand new kits following a sponsorship deal with Norbord.

The Morayhill panel board manufacturer agreed the sponsorship deal with Thistle Colts which offers children in the Smithton and Culloden area the opportunity to participate in the sport for free.

The sum was used to purchase 16 new kits for the club’s Soccer Seven age group.

Thistle Colts is open to children aged five to 16 and provides them with the opportunity to be active and make new friends.

Jerry Jones, general manager at Norbord Inverness, said: “Thistle Colts is a fantastic club that offers all children in the local area the opportunity to play football, no matter their financial background.

“The club is based just a few miles from the Norbord plant with many of our employees’ children attending the club over its 20-year history.

“We are delighted to sponsor the club and the new kits look superb.”

David Lundie, volunteer coach at Thistle Colts and Norbord employee, added: “Our Soccer Seven group look great in the new kits and the kids are really pleased with them. It definitely helps boost their confidence as a team when they look the part in a smart new kit.

“As well as providing local children with the opportunity to play football, we’re always looking for other ways to support the community and recently donated gifts to MFR’s Cash for Kids appeal.

“It’s very important to give back what you can to your local area which is why we are delighted to have the support of surrounding businesses such as Norbord.”

The Soccer Seven team play in a local winter and summer league as well as several additional competitions throughout the year.
