Uncover forgotten history at Drumlanrig Castle
Thursday, 18 May 2017
The team at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate are holding an exclusive Hidden Heritage tour later this month, granting access to the magnificent and recently refurbished castle roof.
The one hour Hidden Heritage Tour, held on Sunday 21 May from 1pm, will give visitors the opportunity to see Drumlanrig Castle from a whole new perspective. From the Castle roof, visitors can take in panoramic views of the Queensberry Estate and surrounding area spanning 83,000 acres.
Organised to mark VisitScotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, Castle guides will reveal historical tales and mysteries of the local area and Drumlanrig that have been forgotten or left untold for years.
Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “Our Hidden Heritage Tour is a truly unmissable opportunity to learn of local history from the unique location on top of the Castle.
“The Castle roof has recently been refurbished and we can’t wait to welcome visitors from near and far to take in the picturesque views and uncover some mysteries of Dumfries & Galloway.
“We have a lot of history to share with our visitors and there is no better time than this Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.”
Access to the Hidden Heritage Tour is included in the Estate entry fee but advance booking is essential. This tour is only suitable for visitors aged 16 or older due to health and safety reasons.
