Crime Stoppers See Red

The newly completed BAM Properties development, Latitude Red, 1 Whitehall, has become the first scheme in Leeds to be awarded Secured by Design status.
Leeds-based security consultancy, Advanced Security Partners (ASP), won the £250,000 contract last year to advise on the security aspects of the design to ensure the building received the prestigious accreditation.
Richard Sumner, director of ASP, said: "We're committed to preventing the occurrence of crime through integrated efforts with architects and developers and Latitude Red boasts some of the most revolutionary security measures in the market."
Lester Hill, Leeds District Architectural liaison officer, added: "Secured by Design is a forward-thinking accreditation established by the National Association of Chief Police Officers. The scheme promotes and awards the principles of 'designing out crime' through the application of effective crime prevention and security standards during the initial design and construction of developments.
"By working with architects, builders, and planners during the design process, police Architectural Liaison Officers and Crime Prevention Design Advisors are able to maximise the security of a building without sacrificing its aesthetic appeal.
"It provides a safe environment for all that use the building and improves the security of a scheme while reducing unnecessary maintenance work which is required to repair the damage caused by criminal attacks. Recent research completed by West Yorkshire Police has also concluded that buildings which are Secured by Design accredited are four times less likely to be burgled than those which are not."
Nick Dockree, development manager at BAM Properties, concluded: "Developers are becoming increasingly aware of the measures that can be made to reduce the risk of crime which is why we involved ASP at the initial planning stage to stamp out potential problems before they have a chance to materialise. We also recognise Secured by Design as an integral element of the sustainability of a scheme and that it's fast becoming something that potential tenants look for when choosing their next property."
Latitude Red, totalling 122,000 sq ft, offers floor plates of up to 15,586sq ft Grade A office space, 92 secure basement parking spaces and is the first phase of the Latitude scheme to be launched to market.
