NORBORD APPOINTS PROMISING GRADUATE FOLLOWING SUCCESSFUL UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

Norbord in Cowie has appointed a talented graduate following completion of its undergraduate programme.
Helen Pawelczyk was one of two students who completed the wood panel manufacturer’s paid undergraduate programme last year. Staff at the Stirlingshire plant were so impressed with Helen, she was offered a full-time position this year and is currently completing Norbord’s three year graduate development programme.
John Robb, MDF Production Manager and head of the graduate development programme at Norbord in Cowie, said: “Helen’s strong work ethic and enthusiasm really shone through during her four month placement last year.
“She had the opportunity to manage a project and present to site management and really impressed the team.
“She is a real asset to our team in Cowie and I’m sure she will excel through our graduate development programme.”
Helen completed a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Strathclyde and volunteered with Strathclyde International Development, serving as project co-ordinator and president during her time at university. The role saw her visit Malawi to teach sustainable agriculture techniques and community development ideas to locals and managing four overseas projects.
Helen said: “Completing Norbord’s undergraduate programme was a fantastic opportunity. I had already taken on volunteer project management roles with Strathclyde International Development, but this gave me the chance to take on more responsibility in a work environment.
“My role involved research on the plant’s production lines and extensive data collection and analysis which I then presented to the site management team. This really helped to build my confidence and was a great experience.
“I am delighted to join the team in Cowie on a permanent basis and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and develop my skills throughout the graduate development programme.”
Following a successful first year of the undergraduate programme, Norbord welcomed four penultimate year students this year who completed the programme this summer.
